A major service of KGEG to the geotechnical community is the presentation of technical programs at meetings. Many of the technical programs have been part of the KGEG-sponsored Distinguished Speaker Series that started on November 13, 1986. The University of Louisville hosts the series in the spring, and the University of Kentucky hosts the series in the fall. The series has included some of the most prominent professors and practitioners in geotechnical engineering. The geotechnical faculties of the universities typically obtain the speakers, and most of the lecturers have been held on their respective campuses.
